Nail Disorders

Our nails are part of our immune system and function as a protective barrier, protecting us from bacteria. Although bacteria live all over the planet and we may come in contact with them frequently, a strong immune system will kill the bacteria.

There are many types of bacteria that can infect the nail.  The most commonly known are Onychomycosis and Pseudomonus.

Because of poor circulation in the lower extremities and a reduced ability to fight infection, people with diabetes are at greater risk for nail infections. People with immune disorders or those undergoing chemotherapy are at greater risk of infection due to a poor immune system.  Trauma, over exposure to water and chronic picking or rubbing of the nail all present unique opportunities for bacteria.

Prevention involves keeping the nail and surrounding skin  clean and free from cracks or injury. Using natural bacteria fighting products and early prevention is key to stopping any bacteria in it’s tracks.

**nails that shows signs of infection or inflammation require medical assistance and cannot be treated by a beauty professional**
